When Elemental was first released we included a few simple font stacks. Font stacks are a selection of fonts that look similar, which means the website looks roughly the same in all browsers on all operating systems.
This worked well enough, but it didn't have much flexibility. You were limited to 4 or 5 combinations of fonts, in combinations that we selected. The problem is, that when Elemental was first released, there was no clean way to have fonts work across all types of computer. The only way to do it reliably was to stick to a small selection of common fonts (about 5/ 6 worked properly everywhere).
Enter Google.
Last year Google introduced the Google Font Directory. Adding support for it was easy as can be, and the additional flexibility and design options introduced through using their library has increased the personalisation abilities of the theme considerably. Now you can much more easily brand Elemental without resorting to child themes or theme modifications.
Below is a quick video showing me changing fonts on my test site, so that you can see how easy it is to use.
